Something for a rainy day…

2 July 2009

Howdy Peeps,

I got an email from Plymouthian slickster Haacht over the weekend, he told me he had lost his entire Sunday on a website for a shop based in Madrid called SUBAQUATICA.tiendafoto2

The mark making madman sent me over a link, so I checked up on it.

And I tell thee what-

He wasn’t wrong.

It’s a right treasure trove of brilliant work and great interviews with a wealth of different artists.

It’s a flippin great way to spend a rainy day, a.k.a- today.

SUBAQUATICA, the brain child of Karl Stromberg, is an art space where that exhibits and sells original artwork by local and international artists as well as books, designer toys, magazines, T-Shirts and assorted items around the concept of young contemporary urban culture with a special focus on Street art.- Geez, sounds a weeny little bit like a shop we know!

Besides being a gallery/store, SUBAQUATICA is a platform for the development of different projects and art items in collaboration with different artists, brands and institutions.

Yep, they are busy people indeed, with lots of tasty things going on, their interviews with different artists are really a great feature, and they ask well structured questions which in turn lead to a hugely insightful interview.

There most recent interview with super talented artist Ian Francis is well worth a look-flippin heck, that guy can paint!

And the list goes on, there’s interviews with Mark jenkins, Cecilia H. Molano, Pandarosa, John Fellows, Comte D’ Urgell, Deno JR, Therese Vandling and heaps more….

One of the best things about the interviews is that at the end, Subaquatica ask the artist to recommend artists or initatives to the reader which can set you off on a right journey of discovery. No wonder Haacht lost a Sunday!ianfrancishia06

So, Yeah-cheers to Haacht! Flippin ace site. Check it out.

Other than that I haven’t got much else to say…..oh, I was interviewed by BBC Cornwall the other day, if you fancy listening to my smooth Cornish lilt discussing the ‘Face Off’ exhibition click here.(People have likened me to a young Barry White, although I think that’s in relation to my ever increasing waistline rather than my dulcet tones. Damn your delightfully delicious caramel doughnuts Warrens Bakery!)

Right now, Gemma Correll is setting up her exhibition (with help from boyfriend Anthony) ready for the opening tomorrow evening from 5 p.m – All welcome!!!

I will continue to try and make myself useful by doing the Starbucks trips.

Enjoy checking out Subaquatica.

Ciao.
